  1. D. Byers says:

2 tools and adhesive NOT INCLUDED. Good price for glass and digitizer — so if you have adhesive & tools already then this is a good buy. I chose this one because it appeared to have everything I’d need to repair my phone.

Broke my iphone glass on Thursday morning. Ordered this item overnight and received it on Friday. I don’t normally trust 3rd party sellers for overnights but this one said ‘amazon fulfillment’ so I went for it.

The product description currently says “Apple Iphone 3G Replacement Front Glass and Digitizer – 2 tools and adhesive – Repair your cracked glass”.

The package contained only the digitizer and glass (in perfect condition and well packaged)… But without the adhesive you are hosed. So now I have an iPhone with the glass scotch taped on until I can find some suitable double-sided tape…

When I called Amazon customer service, they offered a refund if I send it back in — but it is already in my phone. I mistakenly thought the adhesive was under the removable plastic coverings but it was not.

I suggested that Amazon check their inventory and verify that it does match the product description, but this guy was offshore somewhere and could apparently care less about proactively preventing future customer frustration.

Oh well… I should have heeded the prior negative feedback.

  2. It is true that this is the front glass piece to an iPhone 3G. Mine arrived in pristine condition with protective coatings, and fits perfectly.

However, you probably don’t want this, because you can’t repair your broken glass with just this. What they aren’t providing you with is the gasket to which the glass is attached. And that is the deal-breaker.

You see, the glass front on an iPhone 3G is stuck to a frail piece of plastic with rubber edges, called the gasket, with a thin piece of adhesive stripping that goes all around the edges. If you have cracked your glass, you’ll have to remove it in order to put on this perfect, new piece of glass they are selling. But in the process, you’ll likely destroy the gasket, or at least mess it up a lot. You’ll be prying off shards of tiny glass from flimsy plastic which it is stuck to with adhesive that is stronger than you can imagine.

Best case scenario: you pick off all the shards of glass, and manage to strip off the bits of ruined adhesive tape WITHOUT damaging the fragile gasket. THEN you still have to attach this new piece of glass to the gasket, and they don’t provide the special adhesive tape for that. What are you going to use? Crazy Glu?

    Right.

This is not for amateurs. Send your phone to Apple or to an Apple Authorized repair person.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m not a representative of Apple, nor am I an Apple Authorized repair person. I’m an amateur who used crazy glu to attach this $%#^ piece of glass to my broken gasket.

    Love,

  3. I used CE Compass to order my replacement glass and it came very fast and was NEW and in perfect condition. Mine did come with the tools and tape. The tools and tape were exactly what is pictured in the ad. At $13 plus shipping it was a great buy and I would do business with CE Compass anytime!

  4. This glass does not include the adhesive stripes. So you have to cut the adhesive mold or make a collage of little pieces to stick the glass in place.

Beware of the pictures showing the adhesive stripes, it makes you believe that it comes included. Read again the item description: just the glass.

What for do they include the tools if that’s the easy part to get. Go figure how to cut the adhesive tape to fit the spaces while the adhesive tape gets glued to the scalpel or scissors!

  5. Yes this is an APPiE product, not a “real” Apple piece. Did you really expect to be getting a real OEM part for 9 bucks?

Regardless it did the job and looks the stuff. My Father gave me his old 3G after her dropped it out of his truck and smashed the glass. I ordered this and it came in way ahead of the expected delivery date, so I had it before my Dad could even ship me the phone. It took me a few hours after watching some videos on removing the screen, but I got it done and the folks at the AT&T store said they couldn’t even tell!

If I had to do it again I’d by the one with the plastic frame with the glass, it’s a few bucks more but the hardest part was getting the old broken glass off the silly frame with out bending it all to hell. If I had that part it probably would have taken me about 20 minutes to replace it.

As a word of caution, the screw driver you get with this kit is too big for the internal screws so make sure you have a really tiny screw driver and a magnet to stick them to. I started this project sitting on the couch and spent a good half hour tiny to find one of the tiny suckers… Sit at a well lit table or workbench!
